Product detailed description
The Böker Plus Extension Knife is a modern interpretation of the historic extendable hunting knife, inspired by the traditions of European hunting equipment. At first glance, it resembles a robust folding knife, but its unique extendable blade system offers far greater versatility than conventional designs. The Extension Knife combines the compactness of a folding knife with the reach of a much longer fixed blade whenever required.
When partially opened, the handle covers approximately half of the blade while the remaining section stays exposed, providing an ideal working length for common hunting tasks such as field dressing, skinning, and processing game. Fully extending the mechanism reveals the entire blade, creating a significantly longer cutting edge for specialized hunting applications where additional reach is advantageous. This ingenious extension system effectively provides two practical working configurations within a single knife.
The substantial blade is made from D2 tool steel, renowned for its excellent wear resistance, long-lasting edge retention, and outstanding toughness under demanding conditions. Its elevated chromium content also provides improved corrosion resistance when properly maintained. A heavy-duty transverse locking pin securely locks the blade in both the shortened and fully extended positions. This generously dimensioned locking mechanism is one of the knife's most distinctive engineering features and contributes significantly to its exceptional strength.
The transverse locking pin can also be threaded directly into the handle without the need for tools, further reinforcing the construction during heavy-duty use. The knife is intentionally designed for two-handed operation, reflecting its focus on maximum strength, safety, and mechanical reliability rather than rapid deployment.
The handle features solid steel liners fitted with precisely machined G10 scales. This high-performance composite offers excellent strength, minimal moisture absorption, and a secure grip even in wet conditions or while wearing gloves. Its profile is inspired by the distinctive double T-shaped handles of medieval Baselard daggers from the 14th and 15th centuries, bringing a historical design concept into a modern hunting tool. A robust striking pommel at the rear further enhances its utility in the field.
The knife was designed by Wilfried Hein, a German engineer recognized for his innovative technical concepts and long-standing collaboration with German security institutions. His design represents one of the few modern interpretations of the traditional extendable hunting knife. A custom-molded Kydex sheath is included, providing secure retention and quick access. The Böker Plus Extension Knife is an outstanding choice for experienced hunters, collectors, and enthusiasts who appreciate unique engineering combined with premium materials and precise craftsmanship.

The roots of Böker go back to the 17th century, when the family forge operated in Remscheid and focused on steel processing and edge tools. Over time, practical experience shaped a technical mindset that balanced durability, cutting performance, and reliability. The expansion into sabres and rapiers around 1829–1830 marked a decisive technological step, demanding precise heat treatment and consistent blade geometry. With more than a hundred skilled craftsmen employed, the company gained the capacity to refine production without losing its artisanal foundation.
During the second half of the 19th century, parts of the family moved to North America, establishing facilities in the USA and Canada. This international presence allowed experimentation with new designs and materials. Today, major production remains in Solingen, supported by manufacturing in the USA and Argentina, while modern CNC machining ensures tight tolerances and repeatable results. Böker develops knives in-house and in collaboration with well-known makers, delivering tools that combine engineering precision with practical usability, including the widely distributed MAGNUM line aimed at robust everyday performance.
