Detailed information

Product detailed description

The traditional Italian Stiletto is one of the world's most iconic automatic knives and an essential piece for any knife collection. For many enthusiasts, the Italian stiletto has become synonymous with terms such as switchblade, automatic knife, or push-button knife. Its elegant profile, classic styling, and unmistakable opening action have made it a timeless symbol of Italian knife craftsmanship.

The blade is deployed by pressing the button located in the center of the handle, while an integrated safety lock prevents accidental opening during carry. The release mechanism is manufactured from stainless steel or nickel silver, ensuring reliable operation and long service life. Every opening delivers the crisp, distinctive action that has made Italian stilettos famous among collectors worldwide.

The Kris-style blade is crafted from W.1.4034 (AISI 420) stainless steel, hardened to approximately 56 HRC. This proven blade steel offers good corrosion resistance, straightforward maintenance, and dependable cutting performance. The dramatic wavy blade profile gives the knife its unmistakable appearance while preserving its traditional heritage.

The handle features imitation buffalo horn, faithfully reproducing the appearance of natural horn while offering excellent durability and consistency. Depending on the model, Italian stilettos are also available with handles made from acrylic, genuine horn, exotic hardwoods, mother-of-pearl, or abalone. Brass liners and pins follow traditional construction methods, while the internal spring is manufactured from stainless steel for reliable long-term performance.

Every Frank Beltrame knife is assembled and finished entirely by hand in Maniago, Italy, preserving the authentic craftsmanship that has made Italian stilettos famous for generations.

Blade Style: Kris

The Kris is a traditional Malay blade distinguished by its characteristic wavy profile, originating from the island of Java. Considered one of the oldest weapons of Southeast Asia, it spread throughout the Malay Archipelago, where each region developed its own distinctive blade, hilt, and scabbard designs. Historically, the Kris has been widely used in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei.

Beyond its function as a weapon, the Kris carries significant cultural and spiritual importance. According to local tradition, it possesses mystical powers and is often regarded as a protective talisman that brings good fortune and prosperity to its owner. Many historic Kris blades have been treasured family heirlooms passed down through generations.

The Kris was also used within the Filipino martial art of Eskrima (Arnis/Kali). Warriors of the Samal and Yakan tribes favored its distinctive blade shape for its effectiveness in close combat. Even today, the Kris remains part of traditional martial arts training, ceremonial events, and cultural demonstrations throughout Southeast Asia.

Frank Beltrame has been producing traditional Italian Stiletto knives for more than forty years, earning strong recognition among demanding customers worldwide. Crafted in Maniago, these knives combine manual skill with precise spring-driven mechanics. Decades of continuous production have refined the opening action into a reliable and unmistakable signature. This balance of tradition and function defines the Italian stiletto knife.

The Maniago Smith manufacturing heritage has been passed down through generations, preserving attention to detail and mechanical accuracy. Consistent spring tension and clean deployment remain key indicators of quality. At the same time, the company engages in the Made in Maniago certification project and ongoing material research, aligning tradition with modern European standards.

The classic product line adheres strictly to traditional craftsmanship and premium materials such as buffalo horn, stag horn, exotic woods, mammoth ivory, ebony, and durable synthetic options. Each handle material delivers a unique texture and visual depth, making every knife distinctive. The blade, made from stainless steel W.1.4034 hardened to HRC 56, offers a balanced mix of resilience and edge stability, while brass inlays OT63 and OT67 reinforce the timeless appearance.

The Italian stiletto knife stands as an icon in history and popular culture. Originating in medieval Italy, its slim, pointed blade with a diamond profile symbolizes elegance and penetration. Today, collectors value the stiletto primarily for its historical significance and refined Italian craftsmanship rather than its former combative role.
