Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Japanese traditional field knife "剣鉈 KEN-NATA" is an exceptional piece that combines the mastery of Japanese craftsmanship and traditional design. This knife is made at 越前武生 ECHIZEN TAKEFU, where skilled craftsmen meticulously hand forge each specimen.
The shape of the blade of this knife introduces us to the world of "切付 KIRITSUKE", which gives the knife its unique characteristics and performance. With a blade length of 150mm, it is the ideal size to ensure optimum utility in a variety of situations.
The name "黒尾根 KURO-ONE" translates to "black mountain ridge," evoking the image of high mountains where tradition and quality meet. This name carries meaning and symbolism that is reflected in every detail of the production of this exquisite Japanese knife.
The steel that forms the core of the blade of the "KURO-ONE" is STEEL TAKEFU SHIRO #2. This steel is known for its superior durability and ability to maintain a sharp edge even under heavy use. The core of this steel is surrounded by softer iron, which provides flexibility and easier sharpening, achieving the optimal combination of hardness and blade flex.
The blade's finish, called "KURO-UCHI," represents another layer of meticulous craftsmanship. This finish not only adds visual appeal to the knife, but also increases its resistance to corrosive influences. Every curve of the blade, every detail on the blade bears the marks of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and dedication to exceptional workmanship.
The handle of the "KURO-ONE" knife is made of oak wood with iron elements. Oak wood brings natural beauty and durability to the design of the knife. This wooden handle combines with metal elements, which not only provides strength and stability, but also adds an aesthetic dimension to the knife.

Amazing knives with a history spanning more than eight hundred years originate from a place where craftsmanship has been refined through countless generations. Seki, widely known as the City of Blades, concentrates an exceptional number of Japanese swordsmiths and knifemakers. Tradition remains alive, evolving naturally while preserving the core principles of classical Japanese sword making. Each knife reflects manual skill, deep knowledge of steel, and respect for materials, clearly noticeable from the first cut.

VG-10 steel has earned its reputation through a balanced composition that supports long-lasting sharpness, structural stability, and an extremely fine edge. The blade responds precisely to careful grinding, delivering aggressive yet controlled cutting performance. The result offers remarkable sharpness combined with reliability, suitable for demanding kitchen tasks as well as intensive everyday use.

Production in Seki blends historic forging methods with modern control of heat treatment and steel structure. Every step focuses on performance, balance, and durability rather than superficial perfection. Japanese knives from this region have gained global recognition for their elegance, extreme sharpness, and technical sophistication, all grounded in authentic craftsmanship. Made in Japan here signals origin, heritage, and a serious commitment to quality.
