Helle Viking represents a modern interpretation of a classic Helle model, whose origins trace back to a knife created in connection with a fundraising campaign to support an expedition around the world on a Viking ship. The construction is based on a very old Nordic concept that has been used in various forms for over a thousand years. Viking combines historically inspired simplicity with the functional construction of a traditional Norwegian knife.
The handle has a characteristic barrel shape with a slight narrowing, which creates a natural grip even without pronounced anatomical shaping. Thanks to this, it fits various hand sizes and provides a surprisingly secure grip during work. The simple lines of the handle allow the natural character of the entire knife to stand out. It is precisely the restrained ergonomics and traditional shape that give the Viking model a timeless appearance that does not feel like a historical replica.
The relatively thick blade utilizes laminated carbon steel, a construction that combines harder steel in the cutting edge area with tougher layers on the sides. This solution supports good edge retention while simultaneously reducing the risk of blade damage during demanding work. The black finish is created directly during heat treatment and gives the blade a characteristic dark appearance. Carbon steel offers excellent properties for cutting and sharpening, but it requires regular care to prevent corrosion.
A narrow tang runs through the entire handle to its end, where it is held by traditional riveting with a distinctive diamond-shaped washer. This older method of construction emphasizes the historical origin of the design and simultaneously creates a strong connection between the blade and the handle.
