The serrated segment on the blade's spine is designed as a backup so you're never stuck without a sharp blade ready for use.
The MOLLE-compatible nylon thigh sheath stays on the knife even in the event of a retreat where a soldier would drop most of his cumbersome primary equipment.
A survival kit can be purchased separately to attach to the knife sheath.
