The Kukri blade, with its distinctly downward curved blade, has long been identified with the Nepalese Gurkha warriors, fierce mercenaries who wielded this blade for more than 150 years in the service of the British Empire.
The Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri was inspired to be made by Cold Steel President Lynn C. Thompson through his close association with Dr. Maung Gyi, the chief instructor of the American Bando Association and a renowned martial artist with extensive knowledge and skill. Under Dr. Gyi's guidance, Lynn glimpsed the full potential of the kukri and learned that it is not only a slashing weapon, but also a stabbing, slashing and striking weapon. Striking techniques allow the Kukri to function as a hammer or mallet or to deliver non-lethal blows in self-defense. A concentrated blow with the back of the blade can break bones or be fatal if delivered to the head.
With input from Dr. Gyi Thompson, he designed a longer and narrower tip for the Gurkha Kukri knife with a greater distal taper towards the spine. The result was a thinner and sharper tip that can be driven deep into strong and resistant targets with minimal effort.
Finally, a masterfully designed Kray-Ex handle was added to maximize the blade's ferocious potential. The perfectly shaped and deeply checkered handle offers a superior non-slip grip and cushions the impact of your hand during the hardest strike.
The Gurkha Kukri Plus tool steel CPM-3V blade outperforms all factory and handmade blades; including swords twice its size, even the expensive, hand-forged Japanese katana. The blade is nearly an inch wider at the tip than at the handle, moving the knife's balance point forward and allowing you to deliver a substantial blow with minimal effort, using only inertia to complete the cut.
Each Gurkha Kukri knife comes with a Secure-Ex sheath that protects the blade and allows you to carry it safely and securely on your hip, always ready to defend you and your loved ones.
