The Meadowlark Lightweight model has been completely redesigned to create the new, improved Meadowlark 2. Among its many improvements is a full-featured ground blade for improved blade geometry and cutting performance. Like its predecessor, this knife is equipped with a four-position clip that supports all possible carry styles.

Much of Spyderco's production is not made in the USA, but in foreign countries such as Japan, Taiwan, Italy and China. It is from Chinese production that the separate Byrd brand was created, which is Spyderco's official response to poor quality Chinese copies of their knives. Byrd knives are made from standard materials, mostly stainless steel, and are thus a cheaper version of Spyderco, combining the design of this world-famous knife company with a user-friendly purchase price.
