Designed by the famous swordsman Luke LaFontaine and bearing his name, the LaFontaine war sword combines elements of a 16th century war sword with a long sword with a compound hilt. It was not worn on the belt, but rather held in the hand at all times, resting on the shoulder or simply carried by a servant or page. It was designed primarily for battlefield combat and was almost as large as a zweihander or grandmaster's sword; it had a long double-edged blade, elaborate ring guards, counter-guards, a closed ricasso for threading a finger through the cross for greater control, and a heavy counter-weight pommel that made a formidable weapon in its own right!
