Product detailed description
The Kasumi TORA Nakiri 16.5 cm is a traditional Japanese knife designed primarily for precise cutting of vegetables and herbs. The blade is made of high-quality stainless steel with a higher carbon content, allowing for extremely smooth cutting without unnecessary pressure. The surface of the steel has a slightly matte finish, which looks elegant and also protects against corrosion. Thanks to the wide blade, chopped ingredients can be easily transferred directly from the cutting board to a bowl or pan.
The KASUMI TORA knife is the result of many years of development and manufacturing know-how gained in the creation of previous KASUMI series. Experienced Japanese masters are involved in its creation, using the same traditional techniques as in the production of Japanese swords. Each piece is handmade with an emphasis on precision and balance between sharpness, durability, and comfortable grip.
The blade, made of Japanese carbon steel with molybdenum and vanadium, achieves excellent sharpness, is easy to sharpen, and resists corrosion even with daily use in the kitchen. The result is a clean and smooth cut that simplifies working with meat, vegetables, and fish. The surface of the steel has a subtle matte finish that highlights the handcrafted quality and aesthetic purity of traditional Japanese design.
The handle, made of magnolia wood coated with hard epoxy resin, provides a firm grip and an ideal balance between lightness and stability. The surface is pleasant to the touch and ensures confidence of movement even during prolonged use. The knife's construction distributes weight evenly, reducing hand fatigue and allowing for precise cutting.
KASUMI TORA is the ideal choice for chefs looking for a reliable Japanese knife with a hand-finished blade, balanced design, and easy maintenance. Despite its precision quality, it remains affordable and suitable even for those who are just starting out with Japanese knives. The use of modern steel and traditional craftsmanship gives this knife a distinctive character that combines history with the practicality of everyday cooking.

Since 1916, Sumikama has been dedicated to producing the finest Japanese cutlery and knives using over 100 years of knowledge and skill in sword making in Seki. Kasumi is a brand of knives manufactured at the Sumikama Cutlery factory in Seki, Japan, which is one of the most famous knife and cutlery manufacturing areas in Japan.
The name Kasumi, which means mist in Japanese, was chosen to introduce and sell damascus steel knives worldwide. Sumikama was one of the first major Japanese knife makers to use the overlaid damascus steel with a VG-10 core, which has been imitated by many other manufacturers.
Sumikama is located in the city of Seki in the middle of Gifu Prefecture and is one of the major knife manufacturing areas in Japan. The history of knife making around Seki is more than 780 years old.
The conditions in this area are ideal for knife making: excellent quality charcoal from the pine forests and clean running water from the hills and mountains of the Nagara and Tsubo rivers. Originally the home of Japanese samurai swords, Seki has since gained a reputation in Japan and abroad for producing exceptional kitchen knives. Made in Japan
