Micarta

Micarta is created by pressing layers of paper, canvas, or other textiles saturated with phenolic resin under high pressure and temperature. The result is a composite material with strength and stability that is easy to work with and offers a wide range of textures depending on the base fabric used. Compared to G10 fiberglass, it feels more pleasant to the touch—the surface has a fine fibrous structure and feels less cold when held in the hand, which users will appreciate especially when working in cold environments.

The strength and rigidity of Micarta remain sufficient for knife handles, tools, and technical applications, but its impact and moisture resistance lag slightly behind G10. The textile fibers in the core tend to absorb a small amount of moisture, so the material may change color slightly over time or develop a patina. Many users perceive this effect as an aesthetic advantage, as the handle takes on a "lively" character and individual appearance.

The significance of Micarta lies not only in its mechanical function, but also in user comfort. Combined with a non-slip surface, it ensures a reliable grip even with wet hands or gloves. Knife and tool manufacturers choose it where a balanced ratio of strength, durability, and a pleasant feel when working is required. Micarta is therefore found not only in working knives, but also in designer pieces, where patina and subtle color changes increase the value of the item over long-term use.
