The jungle experience proved to be very inspiring with the TOPS proposals. The Brakimo and Tanimboca Puukko are two examples of knives that were born out of jungle experience. The Yacare is the next in line.
It was designed by TOPS GM Craig Powell. Machetes of a similar style were first seen in Costa Rica on the hips of local people and on decorative objects. They were similar to the barong style machetes, but had their own flair. What he liked about this style was that they weren't quite like the typical Central American machetes we think of. After attending a Bushcraft Global trip in 2015, he became convinced that he wanted to design a machete. "I'm definitely not a knife designer. So getting Leo's help to make it happen and make the design fit in with the TOPS range was essential," - Craig Powell.
The Yacare machete is made from 1095HC, a high carbon steel with TOPS' new Acid Rain finish.
It has strong, well-shaped handles made of black Micarta canvas. The design has been made to work well as a medium to heavy duty machete, and the full tang blade will bite deep into lianas, thickets and wood. The wide blade, high cut, and weight combine to create a machete you'll want to use on your next camping trip or even your next trip to Colombia for Joe Flowers' worldwide bushcraft adventure.

In late 1998, the TOPS Knives brand was founded with the goal of creating some of the highest quality knives on the market.
