Extrema Ratio has developed the first knife of a new series called CONTACT. It has a blade with a lance-shaped profile, flat cut and diamond-shaped geometry. The lower guard protects the hand from accidental cuts, the upper ripple improves grip, and the generous blade thickness (6.30 mm) improves durability. All these details make the Contact the older brother of the now famous Requiem, revised in proportions and in some technical features. It is the first of a new line of multi-purpose knives. The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and, in the Black version, it has a chemical polish coating. All other colours produced have been given a Stone Washed blade finish. The handle is still in the forprene design. It is no longer mounted with side screws, but thanks to the shortened stainless steel cone shroud, which is screwed on, it can be inserted into a special fit, making it strong enough. In this way the knife is well balanced.
The sheath is minimalist; most of the fabric has been cut away; it has been given a level 2 retention system that remembers the style of the model it was inspired by. The main sheath is injection molded from impact resistant nylon. The secondary retention system is reversible for ambidextrous users. The blade is guided into the sheath by a tapered shape that lends itself well to quick blade insertion and removal. To remove the blade, simply squeeze the trigger, which releases the lock that holds the blade securely in the sheath. A system has been added in the horizontal slots of the sheath that locks the blade in place so it doesn't shake when it's stored inside. The back of the nylon sheath is compatible with the M.O.L.L.E. system. The textile part is reduced to a minimum and given a classic two-button safety strap with belt loop and thigh strap with rubber reinforcement against rotation. Extrema Ratio tries to minimize the thickness and size of the knife with this new line, but spares no expense on structural strength and safety features.
