Aristocratic nobles considered it their manly duty to defend their honour with the sword, and so they began not only to seek out the knowledge and training provided by specialist sword masters, but also to explore new types of weapon to help them gain a decisive advantage. One particular sword began to gain popularity - a smaller, lighter and faster version of the rapier that was easier to carry and faster in combat. A precursor to what eventually became the small sword, which many refer to simply as the "transitional rapier". Cold Steel's interpretation of this blade (which we have named the Cavalier Rapier) has a sharp double-edged blade with a needle point that is decidedly shorter and lighter than a traditional rapier, allowing for much greater speed and dexterity. Thanks to the hardened steel guard with openwork shell, rings, and knuckle arch, it offers surprisingly good hand protection, while the wire-wrapped handle and balanced pommel provide great comfort and flexibility in the hand. It comes with a hand-stitched leather sheath with steel throat, a scabbard and an integrated belt hook for easy carrying.
