Product detailed description

A piece of history comes to life! Tirpitz, sister ship of the legendary Bismarck, was the largest battleship ever launched by the German Navy. After entering service in February 1941, Tirpitz soon became a constant threat to the Western Allied navies in the North Atlantic. History tells of many attempts to destroy this massive, weapon-laden colossus. After Tirpitz was badly damaged by air attacks from the British Royal Air Force in September 1944, the ship was stationed off the Norwegian coast at Tromsö. Tirpitz was again the main target of heavy Royal Air Force attacks. Then, on 12 November 1944, Tirpitz was hit by special ‘Tallboy’ bombs, which caused the ship to run aground.

Shortly after the end of the Second World War, a Norwegian specialist company began to investigate the wreck and extract high-alloy steel for further civilian use. Scientists were very interested in this material because it was used in research and development of measuring technology and even in aerospace. Especially for Boker, Norwegian divers have now recovered parts of the Tirpitz's special armour from the fjord. These pieces of living history are exclusively forged by our damascus smith into exceptional damascus steel with an exciting background. The ‘Great Pyramid’ pattern with over 300 layers adorns the massive 10cm blade, making this piece a highlight of any collection. In addition, the combination of Tirpitz steel and carbon tool steels creates an extremely durable damascus steel that has a hardness of 61 to 63 HRC and can playfully handle any cutting task.

The handle, made of high-strength AlMgSi1 aluminium (with a silicon admixture, making it much higher quality than standard AlMg3), is hard-anodised and provides a firm and secure grip. For the grip liner, we chose domestic walnut, which has a long history as a grip wood for German rifles due to its excellent properties. This eye-catching inlay also features the original Tirpitz emblem. This knife combines history, tradition and modern technology in a more than unique way. It comes complete in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity and is serial numbered.

The roots of Böker go back to the 17th century, when the family forge operated in Remscheid and focused on steel processing and edge tools. Over time, practical experience shaped a technical mindset that balanced durability, cutting performance, and reliability. The expansion into sabres and rapiers around 1829–1830 marked a decisive technological step, demanding precise heat treatment and consistent blade geometry. With more than a hundred skilled craftsmen employed, the company gained the capacity to refine production without losing its artisanal foundation.

During the second half of the 19th century, parts of the family moved to North America, establishing facilities in the USA and Canada. This international presence allowed experimentation with new designs and materials. Today, major production remains in Solingen, supported by manufacturing in the USA and Argentina, while modern CNC machining ensures tight tolerances and repeatable results. Böker develops knives in-house and in collaboration with well-known makers, delivering tools that combine engineering precision with practical usability, including the widely distributed MAGNUM line aimed at robust everyday performance.
