Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) was designed specifically with survival and rescue operations in mind. The blade of the knife is made with San Mai III technology, which is based on the practices of Japanese sword makers. It is a sandwich blade composition of layers of different hardness. While the middle layer is made of hard steel with a high carbon content, the top two layers are made of a much tougher steel to prevent the middle layer from cracking. This makes the blade maximally resistant to loss of edge without the risk of breakage. The perfectly shaped Kraton (Long Kray-Ex™) knife handle offers a non-slip surface. It fits perfectly in the hand and allows even very delicate knife handling in wet and muddy environments.
